I work with a model I developed: The Three Pillars of Recovery. All behaviour is communication, so we begin looking at what behaviours in your life are negatively impacting you. Addictions work needs to involve some exploration of the past – how we came to be here, and in order to do this work, to give up our coping strategies we need to find other ways to feel good. These are the Three Pillars that create and maintain recovery and we'll move between them and weave them into each session.
Sometimes we can do this work just us two. And sometimes people need a health provider involved (eg for a medical detox), or additional support from a group of people who are also working on similar changes. I can help you to find additional support if needed.
And I said to my body, softly, "I want to be your friend."
It took a long breath and replied, "I've been waiting my whole life for this."
